Why are Indian, citizens being encouraged, to use more sugar?

The Sugar Mills Association, of India has launched a campaign, to encourage Indian citizen,s to use more sugar and its aim, is to promote the sugar, industry in the country.

The Sugar Mills Association, says it wants to dispel superstitions, and myths about the effects, of sugar on human health.

According, to available data, the average Indian consumes, about 19 kg of sugar, in a year and this amount is much less, than the global average. However, India is still, the world's largest consumer, of sugar-based sweets.

Sugarcane production, in India is expected to increase, by 13% this year, and could reach, 31 million tonnes. Due to the surplus production, the Indian government, has indicated that it may cut off subsidies, on exports aimed at ensuring the consumption, of surplus.
