FATF:  What more  does Pakistan  need to do  in the next  few months to  get out of  the gray list

The Financial  Action Task Force  (FATF),  the global  body  to combat  money  laundering and terrorist financing,  has tasked  Pakistan  with pursuing  a number of key  objectives in addition to its decision  to graylist.

At the same time,  according to officials  in Pakistan,  the  FATF issue has gone  through technical stages  and has now  become political.

A Pakistani Foreign  Office official  said that even  before the  closing  meeting of the FATF, Pakistan was  receiving indications  that the country  would be placed  on the gray list for the time being.  But on the  one hand,  the country  was happy  to escape the  blacklist,  but now it has become necessary  to work out  a plan of  action to meet  the remaining  recommendations  while remaining  on the gray  list.

In the meeting  held from   October 21 to 23, the  FAT F reviewed the  implementation  of the recommendation  by Pakistan  and the  progress made  so far.

In a virtual press  briefing on  Zoom on  October 23,  the organization's  president,  Dr. Marcus Player , said of Pakistan  that the six  remaining 27  recommendations were very seriou  and that Pakistan needed  to comply  with the remaining  recommendations.   The deadline  is February 2021.
