Long-standing tensions between China and Taiwan escalated when the two countries' diplomats clashed in Fiji.

Taiwan has alleged that two Chinese embassy officials arrived uninvited during its National Day celebrations this month, but China has denied Taiwan's claims.

Both sides said their officers were injured in the clash and called on Fiji police to investigate.

China calls Taiwan a breakaway province, but Taiwanese leaders say their country is an independent country.

Relations between the two countries are strained. There is a constant threat of war between the two countries, which could include the United States as an ally of Taiwan.
