Long March on foot: Why Balochistan students have been marching on the streets of Punjab for 12 days?
Abdul Samad Baloch hails from Khasdar in Pakistan's Balochistan province and is among more than 40 Baloch students who have been marching on foot from Multan, Punjab, to Lahore for the past 12 days.
He entered Lahore on Wednesday and has been protesting in front of the Punjab Assembly ever since. The students are protesting against the alleged abolition of scholarships for deserving students from Balochistan in Punjab province universities.
Like Abdul Samad, most Baloch students are studying at Bahauddin Zakaria University in Multan, while the rest are studying at Islamia University Bahawalpur and Punjab University Lahore.
Why do you have to go out of Balochistan for education?
There was a time in the area of Abdul Samad Baloch when it was not safe to leave the house after 'Asr. He remembers going out of the house in those days not sure if he would return home because "people were being shot on the streets."
He hails from the Khasdar area of Pakistan's Balochistan province and was a student at the school at the time. Then these shadows of fear in the area began to gradually diminish and 'today the situation is much better' but the financial situation of Abdul Samad's house has not changed much even today.
